The Area Commander, National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)K Kazaureemirate, Mallam Umar Mohammed, has called on Young people to shun the use of drugs without expertise prescriptions.
The call was made on thursday, during a sensitization exercise held at the Government Girls Unity Secondary School, Kazaure in Jigawa State, said drug abuse has mared the life of most young people including women.
Speaking at the two-hours sensitization program, Mallam Umar expressed that any medication outside the Doctor’s prescription is an abuse, noted that the concept is not just limited to taking of hard substances as often mistaken by people.
He lamented that the availability of drugs to users, peer pressures, psychological issues among others are some of the reasons that makes some people dabble into drugs without considering the consequences.
“Drug abuse is not just limited to you taking marijuana or the local ‘igbo’, but any medication that you take outside the Doctor’s prescription. When you abuse a drug, there will be an excess reaction. A lots of people today are addicts due to peer pressures, while others think that they will have their peace from certain psychological problems when they take drugs but all to no avail. Drug abuse is dangerous to our health and that is why we must avoid it at all costs.” Umar, reinstated.
Also giving the young girls advice, the Area Commander, urged the students to always keep their hearts positive, avoid bad friends so that they can have the future of their dreams.
He said 75% if psychiatric patients today are drug addicts, noted that there is nothing good in taking hard drugs as the end result can only be disastrous, even as it is pertinent for the public to know that drug is not only taken by the male folks but also the female counterparts inclusive.
Reacting to the visitation, the school Director, Who was represented by the Vice Principal Academic, Hajiya Ladidi Fatima Aliyu, said the sensitization exercise was apt, disclosed that it will help them to double their efforts, strengthen their drug-free club for the betterment of the students.
