Borno State Governor, Prof. Umara Babagana Zulum, has met with families of those affected by the recent attack in Chibok, Borno State.
Zulum met with 24 families of Boko Haram victims ranging from those killed, abducted, displaced and those whose buildings were razed by the insurgents.
In a statement made available by his Media aides, Zulum was informed that four persons were killed while 110 buildings were burnt during the attack
Relativestives of those affected were invited from the three communities made up of men and women and were hosted by the Governor at the Borno Government lodge in Chibok town.
It can be recalled that insurgents had recently attacked Kawtakare on January 21, 2022, Pemi on January 14 after previous one on Korohuma on December 30, 2021.
In his statement “We are here in Chibok to commiserate with you, immediate families of our sisters and brothers abducted as well as four of our brothers killed by the Boko Haram terrorists in these unfortunate incidents. We share your pains and we pray this act will not happen again” Zulum said.
The Governor after meeting with the families also interfaced with heads of security agencies and discussed gaps and ways to enhance security in the communities.
He observed that four local government areas: Biu, Askira, Chibok and Damboa were faced with serial attacks from the members Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in recent times, assuring that his administration will not relent in providing additional support to security operatives, to contain the challenges.
Applauding the efforts of the Zulum’s administration in curtailing insurgency in the State, the Local Government Council Chairman Chibok, Mallam Umar Ibrahim said, aside the 24 people abducted, three persons were killed by the terrorists during separate attacks on three communities in the local government Area, while 110 buildings of 73 houses, 33 shops and four churches, 8 vehicles and 3 tricycles were burnt during the attack.
Responding to the report filed by the council chairman Chibok, the Governor appreciated Mallam Umar for the quick response in ensuring that the people are not left out in enjoying the dividends of democracy especially in the time of need.
He further directed that an assessment report containing all destructions perpetrated by the terrorists in the affected communities be submitted to him.
“Let me specifically commend the efforts of the Local Government Chairman, because despite the very limited resources, he has been doing his best to ensure that dividends of democracy are provided in Chibok” Zulum added.
