The General Manager, Remo Stars Football Club, and aspirant, Federal House of Assembly, Chikun/Kajuru constituency, Hon. Ekene Adams Abubukar, has met with Grassroots Football Coaches, Veterans and other relevant Stakeholders to improve the standard of sporting activities in Kaduna State.
The meeting held today at the popular ABS Stadium, Kaduna with dignitaries present to chat ways forward especially as the 2022 Unity and Peace Football Cup organised and sponsored by the philanthropist, Ekene Adams draws closer.
Ekene, said the Unity and Peace Cup is to bring different cultural groups and youth together to Promote peace in the state in honour of Hon. Muhammad Sani Dattijo who has won the heart of youths including adults in recent time, due to his exemplary leadership and support in sporting activities.
Speaking with Journalists shortly after the event, Ekene lamented over the dilapidated state of sport, particularly football in kaduna, stressed that the game remains the most uniting factor across the globe, especially in Africa where people are divided across religion, ethnicity, tribe among other differences.
He said the Muhammad Sani Dattijo’s cup tagged “Catch them Young” is aimed to bring people especially youths together regardless of their differences and to give them the opportunity to explore in their football endeavor.
“It is an open competition and we have advertised for every club to come and participate. I believe we have more than 400 clubs and they are all welcome. We have prices of N2m for the winner, N1.5 for 2nd position, N1m for 3rd and also most valuable player of the tournament, best coach awards, and so on.”
The Superstar, disclosed that Football cannot be done without encouragement from the government, urged Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai to invest in sporting activities that will foster unity and progress for the good people of Kaduna State.
“In a foreign country we have only 1% of politics but in Nigeria politics has taken over the football activities. Am disappointed to see football in the state ruined down without any tangible output.
“There is need for stakeholders and football administrators to come together to move football to a greater height in the state. Sport has no political party rather to have a leader that can move the sport system and give it the best. If the system is properly restructured, it will bring employment to the teaming youths and Development to Kaduna State at large. He added.
