As the 2023 Nigeria General Elections draw closer, over 45 reputable Civil Society Groups from within the Northern extraction, under the umbrella of Concerned Arewa Civil Society Organisations of Nigerian, said they will not support any Northerner aspiring to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
The group disclosed this during the World Press conference, held at the Arewa House in Kaduna, on Wednesday, said Presidency is Nobody’s Birthright.
According to the Spokesperson and Convener, Comrade Abdulsalam Mohammed Kazeem and Mock Samuel Kure, the group will frustrate any selfish ambition from Northerners who would show interest because such will never get their support as the ‘ambition is believed to be dead before arrival.’
ACCSON further stressed that equity and justice are the bane of development in any sane society and as such, every region should be given the opportunity to govern the affairs of the Nation so as such has every tendency to strengthen National Integration.
In their Statement, “It’s for the sake of our national unity that we are standing today and declare that power should be rotated to South for the spirit of oneness, equity, justice, fairness and equal opportunities.
“We the Arewa Concerned Civil Society Organizations of Nigeria in the spirit of building our desired nation and our continued existence as an entity, also not jettisoning the principles of power balance and fairness calls for the total support of Presidency to the Southern part of the country.
“We have no other country than Nigeria and we will not sit down and see our country disintegrate due to the selfish desires of some individuals that think Presidency is their birth right of a particular region. Any Northerner contesting President will be regarded as agent disunity and enemy of the nation.
The concern group also stated that the South West has benefited from the benevolence of Nigerians who supported their first bid for an 8years Presidency and Vice President for another 8 years, therefore should also be willing to relinquish the position in the spirit of togetherness and nation building, come 2023.
They rooted for Igbo Candidacy, a Technocrat, preferably, a private sector player, and a de-tribalized Nigerian with rich experience in managing economy for peace, progress and prosperity, added that they will not accept any game plan from Politicians as President Buhari’s successor in the coming election.
