A Federal commissioner, National Population Commission and 2023 Aspirant for Kaduna Guber Election, Dr. Mohammed Abdulmalik Durunguwa has expressed concern over the growth in Nigeria’s population size.
The NPC Boss narrated the ordeal in Kaduna while chatting with Journalists at the NUJ Secretariat.
He said the rate at which Nigerians are giving birth is alarming, disclosed that nobody at the moment can tell the accurate number of citizens at the moment due to lack of birth control.
In his remarks, Durunguwa noted it is very difficult to plan for the people when there is no proper data or figure as such attempt would be base on lies.
He said “The National Population Commission where I belong to or my primary assignment now, which I will sooner or later quit from it is trying to do its best with the brain of the new commissioners we have that President Muhammadu Buhari sworn into office and with our National Chairman I am telling you that we are doing whatever is humanly possible to change the narrative for Nigerians because if we do not know how many we are, we will never be able to get it right
Another huge challenge we have at hand as a Nation is our population. We are doing everything possible at the National Population Commission to change our narratives else in 2050 if we are not careful, Nigeria will become the most populus country in the world because Nigerian’s population is growing more than geometrics, compare to the resources we have and that is why we are having different crisis in this country.
“So we must begin to send in the signal so that all of us can be able to sleep well in Nigeria and concentrate well, because if we do not manage our population, to God who made me, I do not know where we will be running to in the nearest future.
“Any leader who claims that he is not looking at this time bomb that is moving in this country, walahi, he is a lier and is not a true leader, such does not even know what he is doing.” He noted.
He further charged Journalists not to relent in the course of discharging their duties, urged them to send in signals that would enable the Government and the people to take relevant actions in other to build a stronger and sane society.
The Aspirant may make his official declaration before the end of this week after consultations.
