CAN.com The Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) Kaduna State Chapter has urged Christians to remain peaceful and law abiding in respect to Deborah’s murder in Sokoto State.
CAN made the appeal on Saturday night, while reacting to the gruesome murder of the 200 level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, by some Muslim Youths for alledged blasphemy of the Holy Prophet.
In a statement signed on behalf of the State’s Chairman, (CAN) Rev. Joseph John Hayap, said Christians are blessed because they are known for peace Worldwide.
Ma’aji Caleb, Secretary (CAN) Kaduna State Chapter, who signed the letter appealed to Pastors and all Church Leaders to help use the pulpit judiciously to promote peace in this crucial time, noted that the good people of Kaduna State and the country at large is in dire need of peace at this crucial time.
CAN condemned the act and call on Government to as a matter of fairness and equity bring those who took the law into their hands in sokoto State to book.
He said “I have directed to write and appeal to our Amiable Pastors and Church Leaders to continue to use our God given roles and Revered pulpits to appeal to our Members to remain peaceful and law abiding as we are always known.We are blessed because we are always known for peaceful coexistence (Matthew 5:9).
We must refain from from any act of lawlessness,apply emotional intelligence in the face of challenge and provocation.
“I on behalf of the State CAN Chairman request us to pray for the repose of the soul of our sister Deborah Samuel who was gruesomely murdered by her senseless, inhuman and irreligious perpetrators.We call on the security agencies to please work assiduously to apprehend, prosecute and and hand over to those responsible due justice without fear and favour.
“We strongly condem this heinous crime against the creator and humanity and pray for the peace of Kaduna State/Nigeria and similarly grant the political leaders the sincere political will to be Fair Just and Equitable to all the citizenry.
Wishing you all God’s richest blessings, protection and sustainance in Jesus’ name.” He added.
The story of Deborah’s Murder surfaced on social media on thursday afternoon including videos while she was being stoned to death and corpse burnt by other students of the College.
Her death has received condemnation from different quarters, including the British High Commissioner, alongside the Sultanate of Sokoto State, the Executive Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, among others.
News-Port Nigeria authoritatively gathered that Deborah’s murder, has led to unrest in sokoto State and the state government has imposed a 24-hr curfew following protests demanding the release of those arrested for the crime.
Churches like ECWA, was said to have been burnt by the rioters, while Holy Family Catholic Cathedral at Bello Way was also attacked, leaving the windows shattered due to security interventions.
St. Kelvin’s Catholic Church, Gidan Dere, Eastern Bye pass was partially burnt, alongside a bus parked at the church premises.
