The protest followed a new viral audio on social media, threatening to slaughter the abductors by the suspected members of the Ansaru terriorists group.
It could be recalled that the travellers fell victims of insurgency, while on train transit on 28 march, 2022 making it exactly 100 days on Wednesday, 6th July, 2022.
The terrorists made same threat before the intervention of a Kaduna-based politician and media consultant to Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, Malam Tukur Mamu who pleaded with the abductors for ceasefire.
The negotiation led to the terriorists demanded the release of their eight children in government custody in exchange for the train victims, but only 11 of the 61 hostages were released by the terriorists till date, leaving 50 in captivity.
Meanwhile, Tukur Mamu told journalists that one of the remaining 50 victims was shot to hasten the response to the agreement between the Federal Government and the bandits days after the release of the 11 persons.
The protesting family members, who were also joined by some members of the civil society organisations, kicked-off the protest from Nagwamatse House located along the busy Ali Akilu road, marched on to major streets in the metropolis chanting “All we are saying, release our loved ones”.
The Chairman, of the family forum, Dr. Abdulfatai Jimoh, while leading the protest, said, “it is unfortunate a train journey of two hours from Abuja to Kaduna has become a journey of 100 days and still counting.”
He appealed to both the Federal and State Government, stated that the innocent Nigerians who spent Easter and Eid-el-Fitr in terrorists’ captivity should not be left to witness Eid-el-Kabir in the abductors’ jungle.
The protesters also carried a banner and placards with different inscriptions calling for the immediate release of the remaining 50 abducted train passengers.
