Hat-trick from Andy Okpe, gave the club a comfortable win for Gbenga Ogunbote and Ekene’s men at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.
The win for Remo Stars mean they have edged past their contender, and closest challenger, Kwara United, having in mind that victory from either of the two clubs at Heartland would end their continental aspirations as the hosts put in good efforts to secure all points.
Okpe, who was the man of the match, put Remo ahead at the half-hour mark from the penalty spot following a tackle on Stanley Okorom at the 18-yard box, leaving the visitors with a goal deficit into the half-time break despite numerous attempts by the Minna-based outfit for an equalizer that was denied severally by the keeper, Kayode Bankole.
Okpe also got his second goal with just two minutes into the second half of the game before completing his treble with 15 minutes left on the clock after drilling home a low drive past Tornadoes’ goalkeeper.
In thesame vein, major third position contender, Kwara United, suffered humiliation in Owerri, following their 1-0 defeat to Heartland.
However, Heartland’s relegation was confirmed despite their 1-0 win over Kwara United at the weekend.
Ekene Abubakar Adams, whom is often refered to as the engine room of the club by fans, expressed gratitude to God for the impacts so far, adding that plans are already on ground to take the club to greater heights.
