http://www.newsportng.com.ng The Kaduna State Peace Commission, (KSPC) in collaboration with Mercy Corps, Kaduna State University, (KASU) and the Interfaith Mediation Centre, have joined the rest of the world to commemorate the 2022 Int’l Day of Peace on the theme “End Racism, Build Peace.”
The interactive engagements with Youths, Women and People with Special Needs, held in Kaduna with men from all walks of life emphasizing on the need to sustain relative peace in the state and Nigeria at large.
The Executive Vice Chairman, KSPC, Dr. Saleh B. Momale, during the event, said peace is the universal craving of every mankind, adding that the focus of 2022 Int’l Day of Peace is intended to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination around the world.
Dr. Momale reiterated that racism alongside other discrepancies have resulted to sufferings, deprivations and destructions of the livelihoods of millions of people over the centuries.
He said: “End Racism, Build Peace” is intended to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination around the world, which has led to sufferings, deprivations and destructions of the livelihoods of millions of people over centuries. As humanity advances, there is no place for racial discrimination because the human kind is thesame irrespective of colour and place of origin.”
Speaking further at the event, Chief of Party, Community Initiative to Promote Peace, Mercy Corps, Mr. David Gatare, said the need for human beings to live together in harmony regardless of their differences, can never be overemphasized.
Represented by the Senior Program Officer, Mercy Corps, Mr. Emmanuel Shall, Gatare noted that there is need to see every single individual as one, stressed that humanity is a family under One God.
Mr. Shall, while appealing to Nigerians especially youths not to avail themselves as agents of violence in the forthcoming 2023 general elections, said everybody has something to offer in the pursuance of lasting peace in the society.
Pastor James Wuye, who is the Co-Executive Director, Interfaith Mediation Centre, Kaduna also point out the need for brethrens the dwell together in unity.
The cleric who said diversity is a sense of strength, urged participants to use it judiciously rather than capitalizing on it as means of segregation. – Int’l Day of Peace
