http://www.newsportng.com.ng Ministry of health, Kaduna state has applauded the management of Stanbic IBTC following the donation of hospital equipments to maternity ward, general hospital Sabon-tasha, on thursday.
The Honourable commissioner, Minister of health, Kaduna state, Dr. Amina Mohammed, expressed gratitude, while commissioning the project carried out by the bank as part of their social cultural responsibility for the year, 2022, said maternal mortality is a world problem therefore the kind gesture is appreciated.
Represented by the Deputy Director Medical Services, Kaduna state ministry of health, Dr. Jonathan Gajere, the Commissioner noted that Stanbic IBTC bank had done well to have extended such gesture to the maternal ward, stressed that the host community will always remember the company for good.
Gajere urged the hospital management to ensure they use the equipments judiciously for the improvement of the maternal ward and patients.
“Maternal mortality is a world wide problem but developing countries are the most affected ones. Come down to North West zone, the zone has the highest number of maternal mortality and Kaduna state contributes significantly.
“So the death of mother and children is actually a problem to us in Kaduna state and we have been doing a lot of interventions to see that we bring down the number of Women and children that died following childbirth and pregnancy.
“Pregnancy is not a disease but along the line some other issues come up and subsequently we discovered that we loose our women.
“Some died from certain problems arising from the community, others asre problem at the facility as a result of either staff, our non readiness in availability of equipments such as blood, oxygen and other minor things that can save lives of our mothers and children. So it is not a surprising thing that Stanbic IBTC choose to intervene on the aspect of maternal issue, so we are indeed very grateful.
Speaking at the event, the Regional Manager Services, Stanbic IBTC, Hajiya Jemila Mohammed, said the bank deemed it necessary to appreciate their host community for the good relationship enjoyed both in past and present.
She reiterated that it has become part of them to respond to the needs of their host community as part of their annual socio-cultural responsibility, adding that the company will not relent in her quest to build stronger relationship where ever they find themselves and so would take critical observation on other areas of need to shoulder other humanitarian responsibilities.
The Head of Medical Services General hospital, Sabon-tasha, Kaduna Dr. Shagaiya Solomon, who also promised to ensure proper use of the equipments said the hospital has been facing a lot of challenges ranging from landscaping, inadequate structure, lightening and other related challenges, urged the state government and other companies to invest more in the health sector.
Items donated to the maternal ward by Stanbic IBTC includes: Examination couch for new born babies, wheelchair, stretcher, wheinghing scale with heights, drip stand, mattresses, over bed tables and other equipments.
