http://www.newsportng.com.ng In a bid to enhance sustainable peace and development, Global peace Foundation Nigeria, (GPFN) has inaugurated a peace and reconciliation committee that would help champion the course of unity in Kagoro, Kaduna state.
The Country Director, GPFN Rev. John Joseph Hayab, at the event said the program is aimed to see how peace ambassadors can be raised across board, considering the fact that people are divided on ethnic and religious ground among other differences.
Represented by the Program Manager, GPFN Mr. Abdul Ahmed, Hayab said there is need to commit the peace building process into the hands of the commuters so that there can be sincere commitment for peace and harmony.
He further stressed that GPFN have been able to record tremendous record of successes in previous time especially in places like the Southern Kaduna, Zango-kataf and Kauru where the Peace and Reconciliation Committee was earlier inaugurated
The foundation urged the good people of Kagoro to give GPFN and the committee their maximum support for the restoration of peace and harmony even as development cannot thrive in a crisis prone environment.
“He said, “This step was informed by the belief that only by the people taking ownership of the peace building processes themselves can there be sincere commitment for peace and harmony.
“GPFN therefore provided this platform to ensure peace and stability returned to all nooks and crannies of Kagoro and it’s environs regardless of their differences.
“The formation of the Southern Kaduna Peace and Reconciliation Committee, as well as those of Zangon Kataf and Kauru has yielded a lot of positive results and am optimistic that if you can give your maximum support to this commitment, this one can yield even better result in the restoration of peaceful coexistence in
Kagoro chiefdom and everybody will be able to leave together happily as one family under God.” He said.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, the chairman Kagoro peace and Reconciliation committee, Mr. Kambai Sule, described the committee as “the gathering of the cloud with rain when all efforts to put off the inferno on a thatched roof have failed.”
He added that “peace is what we want irrespective of our religious inclinations or ethnicity, because without peace, everything is useless.”
Kambai pledged that himself and his team will work tirelessly and without
reservations to see that all forms of divides and differences in the chiefdom become a thing of the past, charged all participants to join hands with the committee members for the restoration of peace and harmony in Kagoro.
