http://www.newsportng.com.ng The second edition of the U-19 Inter Barracks Volleyball Championship has commenced in Kaduna on Thursday, 19th January, 2023.
The competition is an initiative of the National President, Nigeria volleyball Federation, (NVBF) Engineer Musa Nimrod, with the aim of bring out the best out of barrack boys who wants to develop themselves in volleyball career.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the competition, Engineer Nimrod, said the tournament is a way of giving back to the barrack boys haven discovered that they played different kinds of games.
He said the competition is solely for military children living in the barrack in other to enhance their sporting activities, adding that he also started his volleyball career in the barrack.
In his remarks, the Coordinator of the Championship who also doubles as the Chairman of Volleyball Nigerian Coaches Association, Elishama Elam, commended the efforts of the President, Nigeria Volleyball Federation. (NVBF)
He disclosed that eight teams are supposed to participate in the tournament but only four were able to make it due to impromptu invitation.
He said Kalapanzi, Zaria, Kachia and 44 barracks could not make it, meanwhile, Dallet, Ribadu, Jaji and Airforce base barracks are currently participating in the competition.
Dallet barrack and the Boyenet Spikers of Jaji won their matches in the opening games.
The first game was played between the Dallet barrack and the Base Hawks, the Dallet boys proved their superiority when they white washed the Hawks 3:0
In the second game between the Stallion of Ribadu Cantonment and Bayonet Spikers of Jaji, after a superlative performance by both teams, the match ended 3:1 in favour of the Bayonet Spikers of Jaji.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the games, the Captain, Bayonet Spikers of Jaji, Musa Hamza said he is not surprised at the result because they have trained so hard for the games.
He expressed optimism that “we are not here for silver or bronze but for gold and I will leave here with it by the grace of God.”
Also, Charity Slyvester, who is the Captain of Stallion Stars, said they are impressed despite the loss because the players gave their best.
Charity said they will try harder and come back with full force to ensure they win their next game.
All matches are being played at the Kotoko barracks volleyball court in Kaduna, solely sponsored by the President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation, (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod.
