http://www.newsportng.com.ng People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) has queried the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the certificate of return issued to Senator Uba Sani of the ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC) as Kaduna state governor-elect.
The PDP chairman, Kaduna state, Hon. Felix Hassan Hyet, accused the electoral umpire in a press conference held in Kaduna on Friday, said the results on INEC server is different from the results that produced Sani as winner of the March 18 poll.
According to Hyet, the rejection of the declared results by INEC that gave victory to the APC candidate stands and therefore the party will not relent until the mandate of the people is reclaimed.
He said, “We reaffirm our rejection of the declared results that gave APC Candidate victory over PDP Candidate. Our determination to retrieve the people’s mandate through legal processes, starting with Application for Review of the elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) National Headquarters, outcome of which is being awaited.”
“We challenge the INEC to live above board and avoid partisanship as a supposedly independent body and do her work according to constitutional mandate, as an umpire in election matters of our dear country.”
“We saw a very unfortunate incident, a broad daylight robbery. APC candidate was shedding tears in a circulated video, an indication that he had lost the election, but few hours later he was declared winner of the election and everything went quiet as if we are in a ghost town.”
“There was no outright winner, so we expected that that election should have been put on hold.We have applied for the review of the election through the National Chairman of the party to INEC. But after a week we have not heard anything from INEC. Even if it is an interview, the result should be out by now.”
“Members of the election petition tribunal should remember that there is God’s judgment hereafter as they embark on their duty. Nothing will be hidden during the sitting of the tribunal.”
“The PDP expresses dismay on the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, that allowed itself to be a willing tool in short-changing the people of Kaduna State. It is, to say the least, despicable.”
“However, the Party appreciates our teeming supporters and good people of Kaduna State on the support given to the PDP thus far, especially during the Presidential/National Assembly and Governorship/State Assembly Elections.” He said.
The PDP chairman also faulted the collation of results in Kudan Local Government Area of the State, and alleged it was fraught with malpractices.
He noted that the total figure in canceled polling units outweigh the margin of 10,002 used to declared Sani as winner and therefore the commission should have conducted supplementary election in the affected local government but they hurriedly declared APC as winner which is contrary to their own guidelines.
Hyet dismissed alledged compromise from PDP and vow that the party will not relent until the court gives it final verdict.
