http://www.newsportng.com.ng Northern Consensus Movement (NCM) an amalgamation of 593 community base socio-cultural and economic northern groups has kicked against zoning of the National Assembly Leadership.
Addressing a press conference yesterday in Kaduna, the President of the group, Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu expressed displeasure with the zoning framework announced by the National Working Committee of the ruling All Progressive Congress APC, saying that the north deserve the position of the Senate President.
“The zoning of principal officers for the 10th National Assembly by the APC’s National Working Committee, NWC, is against the willing of the majority vote of Nigerians that casted their votes to APC in anticipation of compensation of the suffering they had during electioneering campaign which gave the APC victory”.
“For equity, fairness and justice to the entire North which produced the highest votes, there is need to allow the democratic process, ethics and principles to prevail in the cause of electing principal officers for the 10th National Assembly.
“The APC had zoned the Senate President to the South-South which contribute second to the last in the zonal contribution of the victory for APC in 2023 presidential election to worsen the situation it was zoned to Akwa Ibom PDP winning State.
“Therefore, the NCM had always speak for the majority of the Northerners and resolve to consider anointing and we are in support of Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari as the President of the 10th Senate.
“The President of the 10th Senate should come from North-west being the highest producer of votes that give APC victory, we are calling on the NWC of APC to please consider our request to allow the democratic principles and ethics of majority carry the board to prevail”.
