Nigerian youths need skill empowerment not palliative – Rev. Hayab
http://www.newsportng.com.ng The Country Director, Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, (GPFN) Rev. John Joseph Hayab has called on government at all levels to empower Nigerian youths in skills acquisition as panacea to building a strong and viable economy.
Hayab made the call on Wednesday, during the Hope Builder’s Festival and Enterprise Academy Graduation, held in Kaduna, said government must be intentional in equipping her citizens with skills rather than the usual culture of giving out rice, pepper and maggi as palliatives.
According to Hayab, many Nigerians are passing through hard times while just few individuals are living a flamboyant life, noting that until ignorance is addressed and poverty is fought out of the lives of people, achieving peace is not a possibility.
The Country Director, further stressed that no government in the world has job for graduates, therefore there is the need for youths to embrace skills for self reliance, create job opportunity for others, and thereafter contribute their quota to national development.
Hayab said, “everybody on earth can look responsible but the moment he is hungry, he will lose his sanity. So if people can easily lost their sanity due to hunger, provide them with source of finding them food.
“We know very well that there is no government that can provide job for everybody, so give enabling environment so that people can come out with skills and earn a living. When people have that then you have given them the Skill to successful living, a key to glorious and prosperous living, but when people are poor and there is nothing they can do then the enemy will now find a space to come and instigate them to violence.
“We have been preaching peace in communities and among people but we realized that there is one thing that we have not done enough – empowering the people. So I am appealing to government to empower people instead of giving palliative.
“Government should always think inward and see what they can do to change the lives of the people not these charity of giving out rice, beans, oil and maggie. It will always just keep pushing us backwards and I think we should have grown beyond that.
“We must attend to the need of the people so we can be able to have the peace that we need. I challenge the governor and those in authority in Kaduna state and Nigeria at large, people have heard enough of our preaching we need action, we need empowerment” He concluded.
