Lawmaker Empowers 175 Kaduna Market Women, Other Traders
http://www.newsportng.com.ng Nigeria’s house committee chairman on sports, federal house of representatives, Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams, has empowered 175 market women and other petty traders in his constituency with cash.
Ekene, a federal Lawmaker, representing Chikun/Kajuru constituency in Kaduna state, under the platform of Labour Party, (LP) presented a cash amount of N50,000 each to the beneficiaries in his constituency office in Kaduna on Tuesday, to fulfill his campaign promises given to the people, in 2021 while in APC.
The Lawmaker who was represented by his Director of Finance, Constituency Office, Kaduna Mr. Alexander Adanu said the program is tagged, “Let’s Get Empowered” with the aim to assist market women especially petty traders and other people who are into various kinds of trade for self reliance.
Adanu disclosed that the beneficiaries were selected from across each political wards of Chikun/Kajuru Federal constituency, regardless of tribe, religion, political affiliation and other differences, adding that the Lawmaker is committed to ensure that everyone in the constituent get something that will enable them to do businesses of their choice.
He appealed to those who did not benefit from the first phase of the grant to be patient, assuring them that they would benefit during the second phase of the grant in no distant time.
“Today is a special day. It will shock you to know that this program is a long time promise of about two years ago when he was campaigning in 2021 under the platform of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) he promised the people, “Let’s Get Empowered” and because of his nature as someone who keep to his words, he has decided to bring it up today to fulfill the promise.
“The beneficiaries cut across all the different wards in Chikun and Kajuru Local Government Areas, in Kaduna state that made up the Federal Constituency, with the aim to bring the dividends of democracy to the grassroot.
“In this phase of our Empowerment scheme, everybody as far as you are living in the constituent you are a beneficiary, no matter your gender, tribe, religion or political party.
“What we did was a ballot, where some people picked Yes or No. Those with the ‘Yes’ Tag are the ones we are empowering today and we have over 175 of them, smiling home with a cash amount of N50,000
“By the special grace of God, we will still have another program because it’s a continuous process. It does not end here. It’s just a way of kick-starting and as we continue in the governance process we will still have more of this to come.” Alex said.
One of the beneficiaries, Mohammed Jibril, from Kujama ward, said the cash will enable him to grow his business even as he recounts series of unfortunate challenges that has hamper the growth of his business for some time now.
Another, Mimi Aluka from Sabo ward in Chikun Local Government Area, a poultry farmer said she will invest the money into her farm for maximum profits, while appreciating the Honourable Member for his kind gesture and prayed God to grant him his heart desires both in time and in eternity
