Personal CDS: Corps member donate computers, renovates abandoned borehole in Kaduna

http://www.newsportng.com.ng Corps Member, Janet Jimoh with State code number, KD/23C/0770 has donated four computers to Relmas Great Star International School and renovating abandoned borehole project in Kaduna state.
The gesture is in a bid to give back to her host community as part of her Personal Community Development Service, (CDS) project under the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC).
Janet, a Batch C Stream 1 Corps Member serving in Kaduna, during the commissioning of the program on Monday, said that the computers donated to the school is to enhance the learning experience of students, while the renovated abandon borehole project located at Kigo Road, new extension, at Luchia North LGA will provide access to clean water for the Kigo residents.
According to the Corps member who stressed that she was motivated to embark on the projects to make positive impact in her host community, access to education and clean water are essentials for the development of any society.
She added that, “I wanted to give back to the community that has accepted me as one of their own. I believe that access to education and clean water are essential for the development of any community, and I am happy to have been able to contribute to that.
“The project also geared towards community development initiative , aim at improving healthcare and promoting academic excellence because the world has gone digital. Pupils and students must not rely only on theories but also practicals for effectual and effective learning.
“I therefore urged Kigo residence, other Corps members and neighbouring villagers across the nation to pick up initiatives, embrace kind gestures and other voluntary services as their personal responsibilities instead of relying on government or Corps members in their host community as development they said is a collective effort.”
it is noteworthy, that outstanding Personal or Group CDS projects under the NYSC program are eligible for prestigious National and State Awards, based on their evaluation and rating.
On his part, the Kaduna North Local Government Inspector, (LGI) NYSC Kaduna Mr. Abdullahi Mani Sada, remarked that Janet has done a good job, while applauding her doggedness and resilience in a quest to leave a mark.
Sada, avered that the project will be forwarded to the NYSC for review upon which the Corps Member would be contacted for award if it meet the standard.
It is worthy of note that personal or group CDS project under the NYSC attracts National and State Award, depending on their rating.
In her response, the Proprietress, Relmas Great Star International School, Mrs. Udeh Jennifer commended Janet who is also the CDS president of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for her efforts and commitment to duty throughout her service year.
Mrs. Udeh rated Janet as one of the outstanding Corps members that the school has ever produced, while noting that the computers donated is apt as it will deepen the student’s practical skills on microsoft Word, CorelDRAW, Excel, Power Point and other digital age applications.
Speaking on behalf of Kigo residents, Mrs. Mariam Abdullahi, disclosed that the borehole has been abandoned for years with no government intervention, leaving the community with no option than to struggle for water everyday.
Mariam stressed that the project will go a long way to address the water need of the community, stating that water is life.
