Tanker Explosions: Hon. Bobai urges Kaduna residents to prioritize safety over unnecessary risk
http://www.newsportng.com.ng The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Public Affairs to the Governor of Kaduna state, Senator Uba Sani, Hon. Victor Matthew Bobai, has called on residents of Kaduna State to prioritize safety and avoid unnecessary risks following a series of deadly tanker explosions across the country.
His appeal comes as another tanker explosion occurred in Ibadan today, killing the driver and one other person. This tragic incident, he said adds to a growing list of fuel tanker disasters, highlighting the urgent need for caution.
Bobai who specifically referenced a recent incident in Bida, Niger State, where a tanker carrying groundnut oil toppled and spilled its contents onto the road, condemned the reckless actions of individuals who rushed to the accident scene to scoop the oil.
He reminded Nigerians of the devastating explosion at Dikko Junction, which claimed nearly 100 lives and left many others with severe burns, stressing that such incidents should serve as painful lessons to deter dangerous behaviors in the future.
“The reckless behavior of young individuals at the scene is alarming. It is disheartening that, despite past tragedies, people still risk their lives for a few liters of fuel.
“The Ibadan explosion serves as yet another tragic reminder of the consequences of fuel-related accidents.” He said.
Hon. Bobai urged residents of Kaduna and beyond to exercise extreme caution around fuel tankers, avoid scooping fuel, and prioritize their safety.
He reassured the public that the Kaduna State Government remains committed to ensuring the safety of its citizens and will continue working to prevent such tragedies.
“We must learn from past disasters and take responsibility for our actions. Safety should always come first,” he emphasized.
