Group advocates for Kabilu candidate in Chikun/Kajuru by-election

The call comes in the wake of the passing of the late Ekene Adams Abubakar, the first Kabilu representative in the constituency. Advocates argue that allowing a Kabilu candidate to complete his tenure would uphold principles of fairness and power balance among the region’s diverse ethnic groups.
For decades, the Adara and Gbagyi communities have dominated political leadership in Chikun/Kajuru, shaping the region’s governance.
The emergence of the late Abubakar signified a shift, bringing fresh perspectives that resonated with many constituents. His brief tenure, according to supporters, set a precedent for effective leadership that should not be prematurely disrupted.
“The late Abubakar’s leadership rekindled hope in our community. It is only just that a Kabilu candidate continues the work he started,” said Lucky Timothy, Chairman of the Sabo Youth Forum (SYF).
Supporters believe that electing a Kabilu candidate will strengthen democracy by ensuring that all groups have a stake in governance.
They also warn against misinformation aimed at sidelining Kabilu representation, urging political actors to embrace inclusivity in line with Governor Uba Sani’s leadership approach.
While acknowledging the role of opposition parties, the group called on stakeholders to support a candidate committed to continuity and development rather than political division.
“As we approach the by-election, let’s rise above ethnic bias and uphold fairness. It is time to let the Kabilu breathe,” Timothy added.
With political tensions rising ahead of the polls, the push for equitable representation is expected to shape the campaign narratives in the constituency.
