Kaduna Electric, Labour Unions Agree to Restore Power After Meeting with Governor

http://www.newsportng.com.ng The management of Kaduna Electric has pledged to review its recent decisions, while the company’s two in-house labour unions have agreed to restore electricity to Kaduna State and other franchise areas immediately.
This resolution was reached following a meeting convened by Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, on Friday at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House. The discussions, which lasted until around 8 p.m., aimed at resolving the dispute between the management and the workers.
The industrial action, which began last Sunday, was triggered by the management’s decision to terminate the employment of 444 workers. This action resulted in power outages across Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi States.
At the end of the deliberations, Governor Uba Sani assured both parties of his commitment to fairness and agreed to act as a guarantor to ensure a balanced resolution.
“The unions expressed their appreciation to the Governor for his intervention and commended the management, under the leadership of Dr. Umar Abubakar Hashidu, for its efforts in advancing the company,” the resolution stated.
The unions also acknowledged the economic challenges facing the company and pledged their support in ensuring its success. Additionally, both parties recognized that the dispute stemmed from a breakdown in communication and reaffirmed their commitment to a cooperative working relationship.
The meeting further emphasized the need for mutual compromise between the management and labour unions to achieve an amicable resolution.
The resolution was signed by key stakeholders, including Dr. Umar Abubakar Hashidu, Managing Director of Kaduna Electric; Comrade Wisdom Nwachukwu, Vice President (Distribution) of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE); Comrade Rilwanu Shehu, Deputy President (North) of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC); Comrade Muhammed Musa, Deputy President (North) of NUEE; and Comrade Haruna Ahmed Tinau, Deputy Secretary General (North).
Also signing the resolution was Engr Idris Ahmed Idris, Managing Director of Kaduna Power Supply Company.
