Northern CAN Celebrates Eid-el-Fitr, Advocates for National Unity

http://www.newsportng.com.ng Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), representing the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has extended warm felicitations to Muslims across Nigeria and the world on the successful completion of Ramadan and the joyous occasion of Eid-el-Fitr.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Rev. Dr. Joseph John Hayab, and Secretary General, Bishop Mohammed Naga, Northern CAN acknowledged Ramadan as a sacred period of devotion, reflection, and sacrifice. The association commended Muslim faithful for their commitment to spiritual growth and prayed for continued peace and harmony in the nation.
While celebrating this moment of spiritual renewal, Northern CAN also expressed deep concern over recent security challenges in the country. The association strongly condemned acts of violence and called for unity among Nigerians to collectively address these threats.
“This is a time for reflection and renewed commitment to peace. We stand in solidarity with all affected communities and urge authorities to take swift action in ensuring justice and security for all citizens,” the statement read.
Northern CAN extended its heartfelt condolences to those who have suffered losses, praying for their strength during this challenging period. The association also cautioned against retaliatory actions, emphasizing that peace and dialogue remain the best pathways to national stability.
Furthermore, the association denounced the increasing trend of religious and ethnic profiling, urging Nigerians to reject divisive rhetoric that fuels hatred and mistrust. It called for national cohesion and the fair treatment of all individuals, regardless of background.
Northern CAN urged security agencies, the Edo State Government, and the Federal Government to intensify efforts in safeguarding lives and property. It emphasized that a strong judicial system is essential in maintaining law and order and ensuring accountability.
“As a nation, we must uphold justice and work together to build a society where every citizen feels safe and valued. Through collective efforts, we can foster unity, peace, and progress,” the statement concluded.
Reaffirming its commitment to promoting interfaith harmony and national cohesion, Northern CAN called on all Nigerians to embrace peace and work towards a more inclusive and secure country.
