Atiku, El-Rufai, Tambuwal Pay Post-Sallah Visit To Buhari in Kaduna

http://www.newsportng.com.ng Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has led a high-powered delegation on a post-Sallah visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Kaduna state.

The delegation comprised former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, and former Sokoto State governor, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, in what political observers have interpreted as part of realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The visit came days after governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) paid a similar homage to the former president during the Sallah festivities, signalling an intensification of political activities across party divides.

Atiku, who holds the traditional title of Waziri Adamawa, was said to have missed the earlier Sallah visits due to his ceremonial role in Yola, Adamawa State, where he represented the Lamido of Adamawa, HRH Dr Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, during the Eid celebrations.

Speaking with journalists in Kaduna after the visit, Atiku dispelled claims that the meeting was politically motivated, saying it had no direct link to the 2027 elections.

However, he acknowledged ongoing conversations among opposition leaders on the possibility of realignment ahead of the polls.

“There’s an attempt for major opposition parties to come together and form a stronger opposition ahead of 2027,” he said.

Earlier, a statement issued by his media aide, Paul Ibe, noted that the visit was purely in the spirit of the season and to pay respect to the former Nigerian leader, who served from 2015 to 2023.
