Kaduna Bye-election: LP’s Chikun/Kajuru Reps Candidate Olakunle Distributes Free Fuel To Riders
http://www.newsportng.com.ng Labour Party (LP) candidate, in the forthcoming byeel. Olakunle Akinsoyinu, on Monday distributed free fuel to commercial motorcyclists and tricycle operators in Kaduna, as part of efforts to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal on low-income earners.
The event, held at Zazi Filling Station in Sabon Tasha, witnessed the distribution of between three to four litres of petrol to over 250 riders, most of whom hailed the gesture as timely and impactful.
Hon. Olakunle, while addressing journalists, said the initiative was borne out of his commitment to serve and provide meaningful relief to those worst hit by the rising cost of living.
“This is not just about politics. It is about service,” he stated. “We must build a smart and inclusive Chikun/Kajuru where every citizen has access to opportunities and support.”
He outlined key areas of his campaign manifesto, including free education for less privileged children, scholarship programmes, youth and women empowerment, agricultural development, and improved access to healthcare.
The LP candidate decried the continued neglect of the constituency and promised to restore federal presence through inclusive, development-driven leadership. He said his administration, if elected, would work closely with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and market associations to entrench participatory governance.
On healthcare, Hon. Olakunle pledged to equip existing primary health centres with drugs and modern facilities, while establishing new ones in underserved communities. He also promised to renovate dilapidated primary schools that currently lack basic infrastructure.
Calling for a state of emergency on power supply in the area, he acknowledged the efforts of the late Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams in providing transformers to several communities. “We will build on his legacy and ensure continuity of impactful projects,” he said.
To foster youth engagement, Olakunle unveiled plans to establish entertainment hubs for the Gbagyi, Adara, Atyap, and Bajju communities, and to construct sports facilities across all 22 wards of the constituency.
Speaking on behalf of the campaign team, Director of Campaign, Mr. Clement James, said the fuel distribution was a symbolic start to a series of empowerment initiatives the candidate had designed to ease economic hardship.
Labour Party Chairman in the constituency, Mr. Yarima Ahmed Abraham, urged residents to turn out en masse and vote for the LP candidate, while also calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a free, fair, and credible poll.
Beneficiaries of the fuel intervention commended the Labour Party and its candidate. Mr. Abdullahi Mahmud said: “We are very happy. What others have failed to do, Hon. Olakunle has done. He is a man of the people.”
Another rider, Marcus Mark, remarked: “This is a big relief. Most of our daily earnings go to buying fuel. This gesture means a lot.”
With growing grassroots support and a message of inclusive development, Hon. Olakunle Akinsoyinu’s campaign continues to resonate strongly with residents across Chikun and Kajuru LGAs, positioning him as a formidable contender in the forthcoming election.
