What began as a casual Facebook friendship during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) days has blossomed into a lifelong union for Benwet Owede, a Visual Journalist with Arise News, and his beautiful bride, Sarah Omuafobu. Their love story culminated in a colourful ceremony that lit up the city of Kaduna last weekend.
The couple celebrated their union over two days, blending cultural elegance with modern sophistication.
At the residence of the bride’s parents in New Buwaya, Gonin Gora, the traditional marriage took place on October 31, followed by the holy matrimony on November 1 at the Salvation Ministries, Kaduna State Headquarters, behind Sabo General Hospital.
Excitement reached its peak during a grand reception at the historic Arewa House, where family members, friends, and colleagues gathered to honor the newlyweds. Laughter, music, and warmth filled the venue, creating an unforgettable atmosphere for all in attendance.
Elegantly adorned with white orchids and gold drapes, the hall radiated charm and beauty, perfectly complementing the joyous occasion. Reflecting on their journey, Benwet said his love for Sarah went far beyond her appearance.
“I married her because aside from being beautiful, she is smart, bold, and very intelligent. These are rare qualities among today’s ladies,” he explained.
Sarah, glowing with happiness, described her husband as “a humble and God-fearing man whose sincerity captured my heart from the very beginning.”
During the ceremony, Northern Christian Leader in the 19 states and Abuja, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, urged the couple to always attend to each other’s needs and avoid third-party interference, citing the biblical counsel that “two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labour.”
Chief and Mrs. Felix Omuafobu, the bride’s parents, expressed delight over the union, describing Benwet as a humble and responsible young man. “We prayed for a God-fearing husband for our daughter, and God has answered us. Today, our hearts are full of joy,” Mrs. Omuafobu said.
Cultural dances highlighted the rich traditions of both Edo and Niger Delta heritage, symbolizing unity in diversity. The couple’s first dance was the highlight of the evening, a tender moment that drew applause as guests cheered them on while they swayed gracefully to a soulful classic tune.

Currently away on their honeymoon, the newlyweds expressed gratitude to everyone who shared in their joy and supported their journey from a simple online connection to a lasting marital bond.
