Hayab urges newlyweds to guard marriages against external interference

Northern Christian Leader in the 19 states and Abuja, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, has called on newlyweds to guard their marriages against external interference, describing it as a growing challenge that threatens the stability of modern families.

Rev. Hayab made the call at the wedding of Benwet Owede, a Visual Journalist with Arise News, and his bride, Sarah Omuafobu, held in Kaduna.

Speaking to the gathering at the reception in the historic Arewa House, the cleric urged couples to cultivate understanding, patience, and faith as essential foundations for lasting marriages.

“Marriages today face pressures from outside influences more than ever before,” Hayab said. “Couples must learn to protect their homes, communicate openly, and attend to each other’s needs. No one should be allowed to come between love, trust, and unity in a marriage.”

Hayab reminded the couples gathered that “Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labour, and urged spouses to put God at the center of their relationship and to reject any form of external interference that could weaken their bond.

Reflecting on their journey, the groom described Sarah as “beautiful, smart, bold, and very intelligent; a qualities that are rare among today’s ladies.” The bride, glowing with happiness, said Benwet is “a humble and God-fearing man whose sincerity captured my heart from the very beginning.”

Chief and Mrs. Felix Omuafobu, the bride’s parents, expressed joy over the union, describing Benwet as a responsible and God-fearing young man. “We prayed for a husband who would love and cherish our daughter, and God has answered our prayers,” Mrs. Omuafobu said.

Cultural dances highlighted the rich traditions of Edo and Niger Delta heritage, symbolizing unity in diversity. The couple’s first dance was a tender moment that drew applause as guests cheered them on.

Rev. Hayab’s message resonated with friends and colleagues of the couple, many of whom described the wedding as a celebration not just of love but also of the importance of building marriages resilient to outside interference.

Currently away on their honeymoon, Benwet and Sarah expressed gratitude to everyone who supported their journey from a simple online connection to a lasting marital bond.

Through his words at the ceremony, Rev. Hayab reminded all present that marriages grounded in faith, love, and vigilance against external pressures are most likely to endure the test of time.
