The National coach, side by side movement in Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Joseph John Hayap has blamed ignorance, Poverty, alongside other factors as major causes of gender Violence against women in Nigeria.
Hayap disclosed this on Wednesday during the sensitization exercise carried out in Kawo Kaduna State on Wednesday on the need to protect the rights of women particularly the girl child in other for them to become useful in the society.
Addressing Journalists shortly after the event, the Cleric noted that neither the Christian nor the Islamic Faith is in support of Violence as it is in the society today, lamented the fact that some verses in the two major religions in Nigeri are often quoted out of proportion.
He said poor girl child education, early marriage and rape is a crime against the destiny of women created by God to add positive value to their world, therefore they must be allowed to participate in Nation building.
“We are having this kind of discussion because our society is facing serious challenges especially on the issue of gender violence poor girl child education, early marriage and rape. These are common everyday Today clergies are being accused of raping minors and even boys. Rape cases are going on in our communities virtually every day.
“Experience has shown that most of the products of these very approach to women have end up to become those who torment and terriorize the community. so if we fail to speak now it will arrive our door steps in the next 15years. He said.
The Humanitarian further urged Traditional and Religious Leaders to speak out against any form of injustices against women, disclosed that if they do not have good education, nothing good will come out of them.
“We are advocating that traditional and religious leaders should speak against any form of violence against women, speak for and encourage the need for girl child education and against any form of early marriage because we want our daughters to come out and become responsible, good mothers, serve and contribute their quota to Nation building. If they don’t have good education we will not have anything good from them if we expose and allow boys to rape them, they will eventually take in and give birth to children that will come under tormentors. All these are terrible evils. Hayap added.
