Team Labour Party, (LP) in Kaduna state has emerged winner of the 2023 second edition of Unity Match and Peace Concert, organized by Kaduna Political Affairs, (KPA) Media.
Team LP earlier in the semi-final stages won Team APC 6:4, before defeating Team New Nigerian People’s Party, (NNPP) 2:1 who earlier sent Team PDP home 5:0.
Team Southern Kaduna also narrowly survived scare from Northern Kaduna in an intensed and dramatic 2:1 victory, all happened at the weekend at the popular KADWELL Sport Complex, in Barnawa Kaduna state.
The unity match and peace concert was in a bid to ease tension in the state as a result of the face-off amongst residents of Kaduna state before, during and after the 2023 general elections.
Applauding the Chief Executive Officer, CEO KPA Media for the initiative, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna state, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe Sabuwa said peace remains the universal cravings of every mankind, even as she noted that sustainable growth and development cannot thrive in a conflict prone society.
Represented by her Senior Special Adviser on stakeholders relation, Engr. Martins Galadima, the Deputy Governor highlighted the enduring impact of events like the Unity Match and Peace Concert, stressing their significant contribution to social cohesion and fostering unity among the people of Kaduna state.
She noted that the event reflects the spirit of Governor Uba Sani’s Government, underscoring its commitment to inclusivity without any form of discrimination.
“The Government of Uba Sani in Kaduna state is the government for all and this type of event demonstrates exactly the spirit of Uba Sani’s Government. What it means is that after elections, what matters is governance, your party not withstanding. I’m impressed, the Government is impressed with this organization.”
The Deputy Governor urged the people of Kaduna to embrace the spirit of unity demonstrated in the event, emphasizing the importance of living in peace for the successful implementation of the government’s seven-point agenda.
Speaking with Journalists shortly after the program, the Chief Executive Officer, KPA Media Kaduna, Comrade David Hyacinth commended the players for their resilience and commitment to give peace a chance amongst themselves despite their differences.
Hyacinth said everybody is a winner, reiterating that the teams had done their best by availing themselves to play the game as peace ambassadors in their respective communities.
He said the essence of the event is to bring actions to the peace building processes in Kaduna state, noting that until the youths are determined to eschew negative influences from politicians it would be be difficult to have a sane society where the sanctity of the human value is enhanced as enshrined in the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, amended.
He urged the state government, Non governmental organizations, (NGO) civil society groups, (CSOs) as well as other peace loving individuals to come and support the initiative so it can be sustained, even as he averred that youths remain the hope of every society.
