Coalition laments marginalization of Women in Tinubu’s cabinet
http://www.newsportng.com.ng Concerned Civil Society Organizations Of Katsina State, has criticized president Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the alledged marginalization of women in his cabinet.
The group in a press statement issued to journalists in Kaduna on Tuesday signed by its chairman, Comrade Adamu Ibrahimah Matazu, lamented that the alledged marginalization fall short of global best practices where women are encouraged to participate in politics for both gender inclusivity and for national development.
According Matazu, the Tinubu’s led administration appointed male politicians to head sensitive positions that practically address humanitarian matters, thus making vulnerability of women and children more pronounced in recent times.
Calling for the review of some key appointments like the National Coordinator of New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Mr. Jabiru Abdullahi Tsauri, who is a current serving Chief of Staff to the Governor of Katsina State, Matazu asserted that women are critical stakeholders for the sustainable growth of every society.
He said, “regrettably, Nigeria appears to be regressing. Key ministries and agencies that have historically benefited from women’s leadership are now predominantly led by men under the current administration.
“Notable examples include the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development: Headed by Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA): Led by Dr. Badamasi Lawal, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons: Headed by a male commissioner, New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Nigeria: Led by a male coordinator, and also the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, among others.
“In countries like the United States and the United Kingdom, women have held significant leadership roles, including Vice President and Prime Minister positions, respectively. Rwanda stands as a beacon in Africa, with women occupying over 60% of parliamentary seats.
“South Africa also demonstrates commendable female representation in its political landscape.
“We urge President Tinubu to review the appointment of the National Coordinator of NEPAD, Mr. Jabiru Abdullahi Tsauri as he is the Current Chief of Staff to the Governor of Katsina State.
“We also call on the president to emulate nations that have embraced gender diversity as a cornerstone of governance. The inclusion of women in leadership is not merely about representation but about harnessing the wealth of talent and perspectives they offer.
“Nigerian women have consistently demonstrated their capacity to lead with distinction, as evidenced by past successes in ministerial and legislative roles. Overlooking their potential in the current administration is a disservice to national progress and a betrayal of equity and inclusion principles.
“We call on President Tinubu to review his appointment policies and ensure the inclusion of competent and qualified women in leadership positions across all sectors. Gender equity is not a privilege—it is essential for sustainable national development.” Matazu said.
